In existence for over three hundred years, Freemasonry is an ancient organisation with its foundations solidly laid in tradition and heritage.
Our members come from all walks of life, representing a broad selection of backgrounds, occupations and cultures. The diversity of our membership is, I believe, one of its greatest strengths and reflects the principles it teaches – equality, respect and inclusivity.
My own experience of first discovering Freemasonry was as a young man, starting work as a police constable in a country town. Almost immediately I became aware that the community leaders were also the same people who donned dinner suits and headed off to Lodge once a month. This realisation convinced me that there must be something in Freemasonry that bonded these men together and I resolved that I too would one day become a Freemason.
I’ve now been a Freemason for well over forty years and I can say without reservation that what I believed then I now know to be true. Throughout my life as a Freemason, I have forged many lifelong friendships and known men for whom I have the greatest respect and whose experience and knowledge has been of inestimable value.
On this website you will find answers to the many questions often asked about Freemasonry, including what we do, what we believe in and who we are. Included are reports on the charity work carried out by Freemasons Victoria, the community aid programs we currently oversee and information on how you can personally become involved.
Freemasons believe it is that which we do in life that defines us and that it is our principles which make all the difference.
I personally have never been disappointed in the Craft. I have been privileged to work and associate with very fine Freemasons at all levels of society; people who share common philosophies and who have at their heart the welfare of our community.
On behalf of the United Grand Lodge of Victoria, I invite you to discover Freemasonry.
